Several years ago, we had a scrabble game that lost several pieces. I hate throwing stuff away (I am pretty sure I inherited that from my Grandma), so I kept the tile pieces for crafts. I wish I had also kept the tile holders as well because I could use them for another idea I have, but oh well.
So for several years, I have meant to make a scrabble name cross ornament but never got around to it. The sad part is that out of all the projects and crafts I have taken on, this craft project literally takes less than 5 minutes.
Now that my husband is coming home from deployment, I have gotten the urge to really deep clean the house and get rid of crap that is just sitting around. That is when I came upon these and what gave me the kick in the butt I needed to just do it!
Supplies Needed:
- Tile Pieces
- Super Glue
- Drill
- Drill Bit
- Ribbon
Directions:
I am lucky that our name has the perfect spacing. If yours doesn’t, try adding blank tiles (just flip a tile over so it’s blank) to the end of the names. Or, if you don’t want to make a cross you can make ornaments with single names. To begin, create the horizontal name first by gluing the pieces together:
Now to create a cross, start gluing your other name vertically starting with the center tile of the horizontal name. When you are done, add a blank tile to the top of the vertical name so you can drill a hole with your drill bit, in order to run ribbon through it. Your finished project will look something like this:
TIPS:
- When it comes to super glue, a little goes a long way. You can tell where I used too much, as the wood is darker.
- You could get creative and paint or glitter the tiles.
- I covered it in modge podge as well, just to give it a sheen and a little protection.
Wow, that is really cool. It centered perfectly to make a cross. I talk that as a sign you two were meant for each other (in case you didn’t already know) 🙂
LOL Yea it is and I already know =)
